Family Works to Restore Indian Springs

Posted: Feb 16, 2009 07:19 PM

After years of disrepair, a local resort is under new ownership. As Bill Kotowski shows us, restoring Indian Springs is a family affair.

Tom Henesh, new owner: "You know it is important. It's important to the family."

Indian Springs has been a big part of Tom Henesh's life. He spent many summers there working alongside his brothers. But as the years went on, disrepair set in.

Although the signs and the building's facade have faded over the years, Henesh says his memories as a young man there never did. That's something he looks forward to sharing with his children.

Tom Henesh: "It's an opportunity for us to give something to the kids, the family, and do it as a project. You know, to build back up and get it to the level where we had it."

Restoring Indian Springs to its former glory hasn't been an easy task. Despite purchasing it less than a month ago, Henesh and his family have already spent countless hours working on the resort. But all their hard work - and, of course, some time for fun - has had a lasting impact on the Henesh family.

Carlton Henesh: "I think it's been really fun. I mean, even though we're always so spread out we don't really interact, this place has just drawn us together."

Henesh kids: "It's fun... dunking people in the water. My favorite part about this place is jumping off the diving board and trying to do flips and stuff."

But it won't be all fun and games... Henesh says he hopes to have the pool area ready for the public by May 15th. He also hopes to have the camping and picnic areas ready soon after. Despite having his work cut out for him, he says he just wants to give back to the area that has given him so much.

Tom Henesh: "To give back to the community and the family and to have a family project... it means a lot. It's worth more than the money in your pocket."

Although the pool at Indian Springs will open on May 15th, Henesh says it will probably take years to finish everything he would like to see done.
